Dome Tents

remember that dome tent I made a while back?

Well, it's now available from Ainsty - I did another with the flap undone and the pair can be got for £4....

not my picture by the way - haven't even come close to painting those - but has got me thinking about getting on with that lot now... and I'm trying to build a pub and a wood at the same time... sigh...

Mast Beast update

as Ian has announced it, I'll share it here...

the Mast Beast that I sculpted has been purchased by Fenris Games and will be in production shortly for those that are interested...

pics of the sculpt can be found here, although it has a new g/s foot instead of the placcy Warlord foot... use of the skull for production was very generously allowed by Ebob...

quite chuffed to be honest, can't wait for it to be made...

the Mast Beast

here you go Brummie, a mast beast - essentially a variant of the Hobby Horse more commonly seen with Morris Dancers and something a little more sinister for the witchhunters to get all wound up about...

essentially a shed load of g/s over a eBob dolly, with an eBob horses skull (GW ones were toooo big by half) and out of sheer laziness, a Warlord plastic ECW foot (actually the foot from the witchhunter himself once he had new boots)... I made the cloth over the body a bit more clingy than it probably would be to emphasise the head and arms of the man inside just incase anyone gets confused and has recently watched Time Bandits...

in the main, I'm very happy with it, there are probably issues with the drapery and movement, and I need to touch up a couple of spots, but it kind of evolved on me from a standing beast to one in the middle of a kind of winding ducking dance... if that makes sense...

horse brass appears more traditional with modern beasts, as seen on my main reference here, but I prefer more simple ribbons... I've also assumed real horse hair rather than straw... not sure on what colour to paint it yet, sack cloth looks good, but I can't help but feel that black will make the skull really stand out and look as creepy as hell...

I'm still undecided on Morris Dancers proper, but I do have another very May Pole centric figure in mind...

very big thanks to eBob for the skull - couldn't have done it without it...

release the hounds WIP

some shockingly poor photos, but it's a gloomy day today... conversion of the Warlord ECW command sprue musician (again oddly - strange that I find that the most workable of the 3) to be in charge of the hunting dogs that any witch hunt needs...

I haven't decided on a head yet, but will be adding several heads to my head bag this weekend at Salute - am currently thinking the not-Colonel Tigh from Crooked Dice... the base is a normal cavalry slotta with ends replaced with bits from a 25mm slotta... originally it was just the front I did like that to allow the other hounds (on their own 25mm slottas) to cluster together more easily for a pack feel when they are all on the leash, the end of the cavalry base was about level with the back of the handler, but the sword projected too much and was getting twanged and bent, so I added one that end as well to take the pressure off the plastic sword... the g/s hides lots of bracing above and below and it's quite sturdy... I tried to replicate the pose from the Warlord Ancient Briton pack handler, so cut off one leg and repositioned it and it's ankle... little bit of g/s to move hands, arms and what have you...

of course, it does occur to me that I may now need to do one without the dog, so will need another command sprue... sigh...

ECW Ghouls...

have been slowly g/s stuff to get some ECW ghouls from the Warlord placcy stuff and the Mantic placcy Ghouls...

first off Mantic Ghouls with g/s puffy trousers and shredded Llewellyn-Bowen shirts, some of the orginal rags should make for decent enough shredded stockings...

a mix of Mantic and Warlord bits for a more recently departed (or more careful) ghoul... sadly, the Mantic stuff is a little too big for the Warlord plastics, but with the more action poses you can get away with the head and arms ok... I do have some more planned, but the pose means they may have to use the original Warlord head and I'll need to be a bit more creative... but I've g/s'd out at the moment...

and finally, the above, mixed in with some standard fantasy rag Mantic ghouls...

Oi! Spaceman!

Donna Noble...

converted from the KissKissBangBang not-Pussy Galore from Artizan... helpful assistance from Andrew Rae on the hair... with the base figure I could have gone for the Partners In Crime pinstripe or the Sontaran Strategem outfit... I figured the pinstripe would be a bit much with the Doctor in it as well so it had to be the other one...

bit of a mixed bag on this one I reckon... not 100% happy with my g/s'ing (noticed little niggles when I was painting her) and I spent far too long doing and redoing her trousers (didn't help that the reference pics had been doctored and had the trousers either grey or beige) before I figured that would do... all in all, I like what I've done, but could be so much better - may start from scratch at some point, the base figure is fine, I just need to get better with the g/s...

needs varnishing and grass adding... but out of Dullcote til payday and the gloss would kill any pics... I may feel better about it after the Dullcote...

The Star Beast

The cruel, the terrible, the evil, the Most High Beep of the Meeps....

The Meeps were an advanced and peaceful race, who lived in harmony and happiness until their natures were radically altered by their planet's orbit passing close to the Black Sun. The Black Sun radiation mutated them into an aggressive, expansionist species who began to mercilessly conquer and subjugate other planets. After the deaths of countless billions, the Meep fleet was destroyed by Wrarth peace keepers, but their leader, the Most High Beep, escaped to Earth where his cute and fluffy outward appearance hides his true nature as a malevolent, homicidal conqueror and dictator.

And yes... I now realise I got his ears wrong... took me bloody ages, and these were the third attempt and I was happy enough until I had another look at the comic and thought sod it, it'll do.... I'm no sculptor, but I'm happy with it... aside from the ears, the other difference from the comics is the colour, the original strip was black and white, but in the colourised reprints he has blue fur and purple skin... now I was happy with the sculpted fur, but to paint fur a non-fur colour and expect it to look like fur is asking a bit much for my sculpting efforts so I went with white... I think this fits him better and makes him more cute and fluffy looking in the eyes of humans than blue would... besides I seem to remember reading that Dave Gibbons based him on his cat (hence the tongue sticking out all the time)...

And a quick comparison with the 10th Doctor. Beep needs matting down a bit more I think.... God I miss Dullcote...
